Who are you? And what are you doing here?

Who are you?
My name is Rebecca. I'm a unrepentant geek and knitting addict. I live in Somerset with my two fish and a spare room full of yarn. By day I try to save the world with data, by night I try to work out how many patterns I need to publish on Ravelry before I can legitimately describe myself as an amateur designer. At all times I listen to a lot of radio.

And what are you doing here?
I like writing things down and I have opinions. Several of them. Plus I talk a lot once I get started and I suspect my colleagues may be tired of listening to me ramble about yarn and Radio 4. I figure that at least the internet comes with a Page Down button.

If you'd like to tell me who you are and what you're doing here, please leave a comment. Because I'm a curious person and everyone loves comments.

    1. Well, that's kind of you. All I can say is that greyscale photos cover a multitude of sins.
Thanks for commenting, it's nice to know my blog has an occasional audience outside of Russian spambots!

    2. Did you know that My First Planet is now available to buy? I know you weren't blown away by it, but just in case you are interested!

As for greyscale photos, I hear you but even so, if you're ever in London..

  2. Hi! I'm Spring. Found you through your John Finnemore post. Think you have the man down pat. :) I am a writer and soon to be director (doing an MA) and radio is one of my favourite mediums as well. I went to JF's last Souvenir Programme and was overjoyed at getting to see what you usually miss. Next up is try-outs for Cabin Pressure. Will you be making it to those? I think working with Finnemore may be one of my biggest goals and it's nice to find other people who appreciate him.

  3. Hi Rebecca just stumbled across your blog where you mention the 1938 Bridgwater By Election and thought you might like to see the new web site about it.

  4. My name is Christi and I am a long life beginner when it comes to knitting. I found your Minley pattern on Ravelry and would love to make it, but am having a problem with the decrease. I believe that I am doing the s2kp and s2pp right, but it still doesn't look like your pattern. It looks like the mitered decrease to the right rather than the vertical double decrease that I found in my knitting book. When I tried a swatch trying all the decreases, mine looks more like yours when I do not do the s2pp on the purl side. Could you please let me know what I might be doing wrong? I've taken it apart 3 times and started over now and before I give up totally, I thought you might give me a tip.

    Thanks,
    Christi

  5. Hi Christi,

Sorry you're having problems and thanks for getting in touch! I am on holiday at the moment but, if you don't mind waiting a week then I can record a video and stick it on YouTube if that'd help?

    1. Hi Christi,

Sorry it took me some time to get to this, I've not been home during daylight much since I got back from holiday (which would have made for a terrible video!). I've now uploaded a tutorial to YouTube here: http://youtu.be/OmO7k2N5qBw

I've included both the right side decreases and the wrong side (starts around 3 minutes in).

Hope this helps, if not then let me know and I'll try to find a better way to explain (or make a better video!)

      Rebecca

  7. Hi! Wondering if your ever found any more Sizergh yarn? Are you related to any of the Sizergh Stricklands?

    1. Hiya! I now have two skeins of Sizergh, one black and one aqua blue, I've never found any project quite worthy of them!
I think we are related to an illegitimate descendent somewhere along the way, though it's pretty far back I think!
